THERAPEUTIC CONVERSATIONS

Counselling

Therapy Session

The first time I met with a counsellor, I was not sure of what to expect. I approached it with an open mind, however, came away feeling unheard and misunderstood. I recall leaving that session feeling more confused, frustrated and angry than going in. I had sworn off counselling but this sour experience burned at the back of my mind.

Years passed (and I feel this was divine intervention!), I enrolled for a Masters course in Counselling in Sydney, Australia. The course gave me the theoretical knowledge and diverse skills required to be an efficient counsellor; but most importantly, it helped me understand what a privileged role a counsellor has in a therapeutic setting. I have worked with individuals, children and families with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, domestic and family violence, couples counselling; co- facilitated psychoeducational groups for both men and women.

Counselling is a purposeful, focussed and distinct process. As your counsellor, I assure you that I will listen to you and help you process the unprocessed. The purpose of Therapeutic Conversations is to create a safe and confidential space for clients to process their presenting circumstances. This unbiased and non- judgemental space will give clients the courage to recognise, re- evaluate and restore wellbeing. Your mental health is important- choose your healing your way.

As Brene Brown rightly said,

“When we deny the story, it defines us.

When we own the story, we can write a brave new ending.”
